Italian prosecutors alleged that Amazon acted as a "Trojan horse" in some cross-border transactions, helping Chinese sellers to avoid EU tariffs and the 22% Italian value-added tax, and was suspected of concealing the seller's identity and real transaction data.

According to internal information, the case may involve 500,000 items, with a tax amount of up to 1.2 billion euros, and the time span is 2019-2021.Currently, Amazon’s European subsidiaries and multiple executives have been included in the investigation.

Another key node in the long-term game:

In fact, Italy’s tax investigation against Amazon has been going on for many years:

·In July 2024, Italy froze its 121 million euros in funds

·In February 2025, approximately 3 billion euros in back taxes and fines will be required

·The relevant investigation has not yet been concluded.

The tax department has proposed a settlement plan to Amazon and asked it to respond by December.

Sellers need to be wary of the impact

This action not only targets the platform, but also directly affects sellers:

·There is a risk that Italian sites will be restricted or suspended from sales

·Account association may affect other European sites

·Sellers with tax non-compliance may face fines of 3,000-5,000 euros

More importantly, this incident once again shows:
? The EU is comprehensively tightening regulatory standards for cross-border e-commerce tax compliance.
