On the evening of March 30, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out attacks on U.S. and Israeli targets in the Persian Gulf and surrounding areas, including using a ballistic missile to hit an Israeli container ship in the central waters of the Persian Gulf.
Vanguard Tech confirmed that the container ship involved was the Express Rome.
The ship reported that the incident took place in the Persian Gulf, about 22 nautical miles away from the Saudi Arabian port of Ras Tanura. Within an hour, two shells fell into the waters near the ship. They did not hit directly but were splashed by shrapnel, causing damage to the hull.
The ship positioning and information query function of the maintenance network shows that the ship was built in 2011, flew the Liberian flag, had a transport capacity of 10,114TEU, and sailed out of Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates at that time.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the ship was linked to Israel, but it was unclear why it linked the ship to Israel.
This is also the second time in March that the ship has been attacked by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. On March 11, the Revolutionary Guards said that the ship ignored warnings and entered the Strait of Hormuz and attacked the ship.
The registered owner of the ship is the Greek Danos Group, which has operated the ship through different charters for many years, and the ship has been registered in Liberia for a long time.
There are reports that the ship is operated by container shipping company Sea Lead Shipping, and its port rotation before the outbreak of the Middle East conflict was consistent with the company's Middle East, Gulf and Asia (MEGA) route services.

Shortly after the container ship was attacked, there was also news of an attack on the Kuwaiti oil tanker "AL Salmi" anchored off the coast of Dubai.
According to relevant departments and maritime security reports, the oil tanker was attacked by a drone and caught fire in the waters near Dubai on the evening of March 30. The tanker was loaded with approximately 1.2 million barrels of Saudi crude oil and 800,000 barrels of Kuwaiti crude oil.
Maritime firefighting forces carried out fire-fighting operations overnight, and relevant departments subsequently reported that the open fire had been completely extinguished and no crude oil leakage occurred.
The Dubai Media Office stated that there were no reports of casualties and all 24 crew members on board were safe. However, Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC) said there may be potential risks of crude oil leakage in the surrounding waters.
The ship's AIS information showed that the next destination was Qingdao, China, so the incident was directly related to China's crude oil transportation chain.
Some domestic media said that this is also the first ship whose AIS has clearly marked that Chinese cargo has also been attacked since it was disclosed on the market.
