On January 26, the large container ship "Ruby Tower" suddenly ran aground in the Port of Mobile, Alabama, USA, resulting in a temporary closure of the channel.
According to reports from the Alabama Port Authority and verification from multiple sources, the accident occurred at about 11 a.m. local time on the 26th.
The ship, which serves the core route from Asia to the U.S. Gulf, left the Port of Mobile APM Terminal under the guidance of two pilots, preparing to carry out a cargo mission to Mexico.
While sailing to the waters north of Gaillard Island at the eastern end of the channel, the ship's steering system suddenly failed and it lost control and ran aground.

Subsequently, the port management department immediately launched an emergency response and closed the channel to other ships.
Rescue forces quickly assembled, and three tugboats arrived at the scene to assist with disposal. By approximately 16:00 that day, the ship successfully emerged from the shallow water and resumed movement.
Although it has not been completely repaired, it is able to sail under its own power, and the tugboat is on standby throughout the entire journey.
The U.S. Coast Guard arrived at the scene for supervision as soon as possible. The ship is currently docked in Mobile Bay and is undergoing safety inspections to confirm its seaworthiness.
It is reported that the waterway has returned to normal traffic.
According to the ship positioning and sailing schedule query information on the maintenance network, the "Ruby Tower" was built in 2013, with a length of about 300 meters and a load capacity of 8,827TEU. It flies the Liberian flag and has called Hong Kong, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai and other ports.

It is worth noting that public information shows that the charter party is affiliated to Japan's Ocean Network Shipping (ONE), and the co-cabin shipping companies include: Evergreen Line, Yang Ming Marine Line and HMM.
In addition, the dredging project at the Port of Mobile, where the accident occurred, was officially completed in October last year.
The project will increase the port's draft to 50 feet, making the Port of Mobile the deepest container port on the U.S. Gulf Coast and capable of handling post-Panamax container ships.

As of now, the specific damage to the "Ruby Tower" and subsequent navigation adjustments have not been announced.
However, industry analysts believe that although the accident caused a temporary closure of the channel, the rescue was timely and did not cause any loss of cargo or environmental pollution. The overall operating order of the Asia-US Gulf route is expected to recover quickly.
Relevant cargo owners and freight forwarding companies can focus on the safety inspection results of the U.S. Coast Guard and the latest shipping schedule adjustment notices issued by shipping companies. They can also check real-time ship dynamics or route conditions through the maintenance network for follow-up updates.
