DANISH shipping giant Maersk Line is to launch a second weekly all-water transatlantic service from Montreal and Halifax to the Mediterranean, which will also conveniently connect Eastern Canada with destinations in the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Africa and the Far East.

Five Maersk Line-operated 1,800 TEU vessels will call at Montreal's Cast terminal and Halterm in Halifax, and then sail non-stop to the Mediterranean.

The first vessel of the MMX service, Cap Portland voyage 1806, will sail from Montreal July 27 and from Halifax July 31. Inland points in Canada connect with the MMX in Montreal through Maersk Line's agreements with CN Rail, according to AJOT.

Featuring leading productivity measurements, the Port of Montreal's Cast terminal where Maersk Line's North Europe string the Canada Atlantic Express also calls will be the home of the MMX on the Saint Lawrence River.

In Halifax, the Halterm facility will accommodate the MMX offering perishable export shippers unparalleled access to Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asia-Pacific markets. Maersk Line refrigerated cargo features new remote container management options that brings peace of mind when shipping fresh, frozen or pharmaceutical cargo.
