Maersk has upgraded the company's remote container management system platform (Remote Container Management / RCM) and introduced an online virtual assistant, Captain Peter.

The program looks just like other apps on your smartphone, and Captain Peter is designed to help take the customer experience to the next level. This application will help customers during the cargo transportation process, reducing the tediousness and complexity of shipping.

Since Maersk launched the remote container management system platform to customers in September 2017, more than 3,600 companies have used the platform to learn about 380,000 refrigerated containers owned by Maersk and Hamburg South America.

"The results of the past two years have proven that our RCM products are of great value to reefer customers, and we have identified key areas that can be improved to improve cargo visibility," said Ken West, Maersk reefer digital development manager. With Captain Peter, we have greatly enhanced our customers ’experience with data and laid the foundation for providing more advanced features around it."

Captain Peter keeps an eye on the temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels of the cold box and sends notifications to customers when they need to be alerted. Cloud data is currently used to increase flexibility, and can be easily shared and configured to meet the specific needs of customers.

Wiskerke is one of the main customers involved in Captain Peter's development. When using Captain Peter to track cold box shipments, the visibility of the data provided by Captain Peter is the company's most important aspect.

Wiskerke President Chayenne Wiskerke said: "I chose Maersk and Captain Peter because I was able to see the cargo during the entire transportation process. You can't imagine that I would be very painful if I could not see what happened during the transportation. "

Maersk plans to continue to communicate with customers and will add more advanced features to the new cold box management platform in the future to create more value for customers' business through digital innovation.
