In late July 2026, Maersk and Ocean Network Shipping (ONE) successively issued service adjustment announcements for the U.S. line to optimize route calls to the west coast and east coast of the United States. The adjustment involves important ports in North China, East China, Southeast Asia and the United States such as New York, Jacksonville, Savannah, Charleston and Oakland.

PART.01 Maersk TP7: Added Auckland direct connection
Maersk announced that it will upgrade the TP7 route and add a direct service to the Port of Oakland in the United States. The port sequence of the new TP7 route is: Busan-Ningbo-Los Angeles-Oakland-Yokohama-Busan.The new route is operated by the "Missouri Express" ship. It is expected to arrive at Ningbo Meishan Terminal on August 2, then sail to Los Angeles, and is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Oakland in the United States on August 21.Maersk stated that this move aims to provide cargo sources in East China and Busan with a direct transportation option to the second largest gateway port on the West Coast of the United States and reduce the need for rail transshipment. It is worth noting that during the mutual collection of port fees between Chinese and American ships in October 2025, Maersk canceled the Ningbo Port call for US-flagged ships on the TP7 route due to special port fees and changed it to transit through South Korea. This time, TP7 resumed direct connection with Ningbo and added the port of Auckland, which shows that the route deployment has returned to normal adjustment.

PART.02ONE US East EC3: Added Ningbo Port call

ONE simultaneously announced the optimization of the East US EC3 route, adding Ningbo port call on the basis of retaining Tianjin Xingang, Qingdao and other North China ports. The sequence of ports of call for the new EC3 route is: Tianjin New Port - Qingdao - Busan - Ningbo - Laem Chabang - Gamei - Singapore - Colombo - Cape of Good Hope - New York - Jacksonville - Savannah - Charleston - Manzanillo, Panama - Tianjin New Port. The new adjustment will be implemented from voyage 0010W/0011E of "HMM PERIDOT", which is expected to arrive at Tianjin Xingang on September 11.After the adjustment, the EC3 route will connect North China, East China and major cargo source areas in Asia such as South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Sri Lanka, via the Cape of Good Hope, with the four core gateway ports of New York, Jacksonville, Savannah, and Charleston on the east coast of the United States.

PART.03 Route reconstruction under the normalization of Red Sea detour

The route adjustments of the two shipping companies took place against the backdrop of the normalization of Red Sea detours.Since the geopolitical conflict in the Middle East continues, shipping companies have generally chosen to bypass the Suez Canal route via the Cape of Good Hope, which has had a structural impact on shipping schedules and port sequences.By optimizing the port sequence and increasing direct call options, shipping companies are trying to maintain route stability while extending voyages. For Chinese export companies, goods sent from East China to Auckland can reduce the railway transshipment link. Goods sourced from North China through the EC3 route can avoid transiting through Busan before entering the East US market.

Industry observation
The simultaneous adjustment of TP7 and EC3 has released two signals: First, the shipping company is reorganizing the US line network under the normalization framework of the Red Sea bypass, and optimizing the port sequence to offset the efficiency loss caused by the extended voyage; second, Ningbo Port has received "additional calls" in the US line deployment of the two shipping companies at the same time - TP7 has resumed direct calls and EC3 has added new calls, showing that the strategic weight of East China's cargo sources in the trans-Pacific route is still rising. It is recommended that cargo owners and freight forwarding companies incorporate the new TP7 cycle on August 2 and the new EC3 port sequence on September 11 into the booking verification process to avoid the risk of container dumping or shipping schedule misalignment due to the old shipping schedule.
