Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot) has issued a permit to Russia’s LNG-Gorskaya for the construction of the country’s first eco-friendly port in Saint-Petersburg, according to the company.

Namely, the company now received a nod for its project on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, which would supply liquefied natural gas to Europe, as well as provide vessel bunkering in the Baltic Sea.

According to data provided by the company, the total processing capacity of the plant would be some 1.968 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, which corresponds to 1.26 million tons of LNG to be produced by facilities assembled on three non-self-propelled barges.

The LNG-Gorskaya complex would consist of three facilities with an annual processing capacity of 656 million cubic meters each, which will be put into operation in three phases in 2017, 2019 and 2021, respectively, the company said.

Under the first phase, three bunkering barges with a capacity of 7,000 cubic meters each will be built. This phase would also include the construction of a floating facility for LNG production and the development of on-shore infrastructure at Gorskaya point.
