06 Freight

As a traditionally highly competitive market, freight rates in the Asian region have remained stable throughout the epidemic, which is different from the sharp increase in freight rates in deep-sea ocean trade.

Sundara, Cargo Director of Scan Global Logistics Asia Pacific, said: "Some mainstream shipping companies are offering promotional prices on intra-Asia routes, especially on sailings that require repositioning of cabinets."

He added: “In order to cope with the trans-Pacific eastbound and far eastbound trade peaks, intra-Asia trade flows have been restricted to provide priority flows for these major east-west trades.”

"They are shipping the return empty containers to the Far East to ensure that the empty containers can be quickly released for export. However, we expect the carrier to increase its efforts to promote intra-Asian transactions sometime at the end of the third quarter, although we still It is possible to ensure the freight, including FAK and designated account fees, before the end of September."

Sundara also explained that operators including Hapag-Lloyd, CNC, and Sealand are increasing online spot freight rates.
