US soybean farmer Rick Thales: "Until November next year, if the trade war against China is not over, I will never vote for President Trump again."

Last month, Trump made a big commitment to the American farmers who had been hit by the trade war against China. He told farmers that they now need to "buy more land, bigger tractors." The president promised that China has just promised to buy more American agricultural products every year than it did before the war. He called this a victory.

This is not the first time he has made a commitment to a farmer like me. At the beginning of this year at the United States Agricultural Bureau Federation meeting, he told more than 5,000 American farmers:

"We will reach a trade agreement that will give you a lot of business, and you won't believe it. Your question will be: Can this be done? We need more land to grow things."

One thing he said is right. Yes, farmers are becoming less and less convinced, and more and more people are seeing his promise.

Many Americans, like me, originally supported Trump. But now I realize that when I lost 20% of my 750-acre family farm in western Pennsylvania due to a trade war initiated by Trump, I no longer support him. We produce soybeans, corn and dairy products, all of which are targeted by tariffs.

"If the trade war against China is not over, I will never vote for President Trump again."

I waited patiently for many months, and now I am going to start speaking. The good news is that I am not alone. In Minnesota, farmers complained about enough for the Minister of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue. They said that the market is shrinking day by day, and when the "patriots" are not saved from bankruptcy, they will not be "great again" as Trump said.

The president does not think that the peasants are fooling. We are people who either don't talk or act. For more than a year, we have only seen empty promises without any progress; we have received a band-aid subsidy that simply cannot stop us from bleed.

The sad truth is that the damage caused by trade wars to American farmers may no longer be difficult to eliminate. In the past two years, our competitors have taken the opportunity to enter the Chinese market, where more than 1.3 billion people favor foreign meat and dairy products. For example, our soybean exports originally had an advantage over South American competitors, and now the advantage is almost gone. We are difficult to retain customers.

As 2020 approaches, I am sure we will hear more and more promises to protect farmers. And the only promise I can make is that I won't buy tractors or land in the near future. By November next year, if the trade war against China is not over, I will never vote for President Trump again.
