Immediately after the incident, multiple local fire stations immediately dispatched 16 fire trucks, 5 rescue teams and 4 tugboats to the scene to participate in fire-fighting operations.
Witnesses said that just after 5 a.m., they saw thick smoke billowing from the superstructure of the ship.
A fire official at the scene said that the fire spread from the upper area to the lower level, and had spread to an area of about 20 square meters inside the hull, with a depth of 6 to 7 meters.

It has a deadweight tonnage of 15,400 tons, a length of 145.68 meters, and a width of 25 meters. It is still docked at the Tanjung Pera Port in Surabaya. The fire occurred on the day after arriving at the Perian Container Terminal in Tanjong Pela Port.
