Recently, Hong Kong Customs issued a communiqué, which found that on August 26, the Hong Kong Customs cracked a case of suspected smuggling goods to South Korea at the Kwai Chung Container Terminal, and seized a large number of suspected smuggling goods from two containers, with an estimated market value of about HK$140 million.

Through intelligence analysis and risk assessment, the customs found that criminals intend to use ocean-going ships to smuggle cargo, so they deployed strategies to crack down on related activities.

The person in charge of the cargo inspection team of the Customs Port and Sea Area Department said that the customs locked two containers exported from Hong Kong to South Korea, and reported that they carried LCD screens and electronic accessories. When conducting an X-ray machine inspection, it was found that the images displayed were inconsistent, reflecting the inconsistent density of the goods in the cabinet, and different from the goods reported to be carried. It is suspected that there were smuggled goods that had not been declared, so it was handed over to the Organized Crime Investigation Section of the Customs for follow-up.

After counting, more than 70 boards of goods that were not listed on the manifest were seized, including suspected controlled shark skins, electronic products, high-end electronic parts, spirits and medical instruments, with a market value of more than HK$140 million. At the same time, a small amount of goods that have been declared, such as LCD displays, electronic accessories such as wires and fire bulls, were also seized.

The customs said that it is believed that due to the high demand for related products in various places, criminals have tried to take a roundabout route, first smuggling the goods to South Korea, and then smuggling them to different places. The customs will continue to conduct in-depth investigations into the source and destination of the goods.

In addition, the customs also found that under the customs vigorously cracking down on smuggling activities with different methods, criminals hid a large amount of undeclared goods in a small amount of customs-declared goods and escaped, but they still could not escape the investigation of customs personnel. The customs will continue to crack down on smuggling activities in all aspects.

The case is still under investigation, and it is not ruled out that someone will be arrested...
