The head of Cuban Airlines, Arsenio Arocha, told the media on the same day that the company had been told by two foreign companies that the relevant aircraft lease agreement would be terminated, resulting in the company’s flights to Mexico, Dominica, Venezuela and other countries. Affected by US sanctions and other factors, Cuban Airlines is difficult to purchase passenger aircraft and related accessories from abroad, so it mainly relies on leasing aircraft to foreign companies to operate.

The US Department of Commerce has announced additional sanctions against the company, including the suspension of existing licenses to lease aircraft to Cuban state-owned air transport companies, and will no longer approve applications for taxis to these companies.
